Hazeldean Road widening update

Construction between Terry Fox Drive and Iber Road is well underway and the current focus is on the completion of the underground services on the north side of the right of way, which will accommodate the future westbound traffic lanes.

Currently traffic between Iber Road and Carp Road has been detoured along the south side of the roadway to accommodate much of the storm and sanitary sewer construction as well as the roadway construction. In June, traffic will be put onto the newly completed lanes and widened Poole Creek structure providing space for the contractor to complete the sewer construction and installation of the watermain.

Traffic detours will be required at the Stittsville Mainstreet and Hazeldean intersection where the installation of massive sewer maintenance holes and the deep watermain will occur. This work is scheduled in April and May of this year.

In order to bypass construction, I encourage you to please consider alternate routes including Iber Road, Abbott Street and Huntmar Drive; Carp Road to the Queensway; and Fernbank Road.

Please remember and respect the speed limit of 50km/h through the construction zone.

Should you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact my office.

OC Transpo eliminates rural premium

My office has received some inquiries related to the elimination of the rural premium on transit passes. As of March 1, all Stittsville transit users can take an express bus without having to pay the rural premium. The change will also apply to Ecopass subscribers.

OC Transpo had indicated the change on their website mid-February and began circulating the information via the Take One flyers that are available on routes. As well, vendors were asked to share the change in fee structure with purchasers. However, it has come to my attention that this has not been the case in some instances resulting in some pass holders purchasing a March Rural Express pass. Please contact my office should you need assistance.

If you are an Ecopass subscriber, I encourage you to contact your administrator as soon as possible to ensure the appropriate changes are made.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
