Safety Concerns: Fernbank and Shea Road

Upon my inquiry into safety concerns regarding the installation of a “Hidden Intersection sign” sign westbound on Fernbank Road east of Shea Road south, I received the following response:

To verify existing signs as well as completing an assessment of regulations in place the Department has undertaken a site investigation. As a result we have the following comments: “The Intersection Ahead sign along with the Hidden tab are not warranted. The sight line looking east from the final stop position on Shea Road South is more than adequate. The measured sightline is over 500 m. In the past three years there are no reported collisions at this intersection. The signed speed limit in this area is 60 km/h.

The signs are not required as per the ‘Ontario Traffic Act’ and accompanying ‘Traffic Manual’. In consideration of the above, additional changes to existing signs are not warranted at this time.”
