Dear residents,
Stittsville Residents Offer Support
This past weekend I was privileged to spend an evening
honouring a special friend and raising funds for an important cause.
On Aug. 11 I attended the evening portion of the 4th
Annual Tori Carswell Memorial Golf Tournament. Tori was an inspiration to many
people in our community during her courageous battle with Neuroblastama, a form
of childhood cancer. Sadly, Tori succumbed to the disease in January 2004 and in
2005 Tori’s parents Kim and Paul created Tori’s Helping Hand in her memory.
Tori’s Helping Hand is a part of Candelighters Childhood Cancer Support Program
Inc., which raises funds for children in palliative care and their families.
It was great to see so many members of our community
contribute to this great cause and ensure another successful year for the Tori
Carswell Memorial Golf Tournament. Thank you to everyone for allowing her memory
to live on and help other children and their families enjoy comfort in their
final days together.
Another family in our community will be hosting a
tournament to raise funds for Tori’s Helping Hand. The Kim Oswick Hearts of Hope
Memorial Golf Tournament is taking place on Sept. 7 at the Arnprior Golf and
Country Club. Kim was a wonderful young woman from Stittsville who lost her
battle with cancer in November 2006. To honour Kim’s memory her parents Linda
and Rick will be hosting this first tournament. For more information and to find
out how you can contribute to the Kim Oswick Hearts of Hope Memorial Golf
Tournament please contact my office at 613-580-2476 or by email at
Shad.Qadri@ottawa.ca.
The community of Stittsville has always wrapped their arms
around families in need and I am truly proud to serve as your representative.
Thank you to the many individuals who have donated their time and efforts to
supporting your neighbours. For more information on Tori’s Helping Hand please

Habitat for Humanity
Last week Road Grill, Food Network Canada’s New BBQ
Series, filmed three episodes at the Habitat for Humanity site, located on White
Cedar Court in Stittsville.
The show is broadcast in over 90 countries around the
world and the scenes shot in our community are set to air this fall. Road Grill
is hosted by Matt Dunnigan, a sports commentator for TSN and former CFL
quarterback. I had the opportunity to visit as the scenes were shot in our
community and was also treated to a piece of delicious barbequed chicken
prepared by Matt who entertained the crowd of residents and Woman’s Build
volunteers. I would like to thank Road Grill for visiting our community and also
for kindly donating $1,000 to Habitat for Humanity Woman’s Build.
Construction of the Habitat for Humanity homes is
anticipated to be complete by next month and I hope all of your will join me to
celebrate this great achievement for our community. Please continue to check my
website (www.shadqadri.com) for updates on this great project.
