NEWS ARCHIVESNovember 9, 2007 Supporting Big Changes in our City Last week Mayor Larry O’Brien announced his vision for change in our City and I look forward to working hard to achieve this for all Ottawa residents. On Nov. 7 the Mayor spoke to the crowd at the Ottawa Business Journal breakfast series and outlined his plans for a property tax freeze in 2008. Included in Mayor O’Brien’s plans are outsourcing City services, which is something I feel we must seriously review and consider. During his speech, Mayor O’Brien also spoke about Smart
Management and how we can run our City more effectively which means it will no
longer be business as usual. This week Council tabled the 2008 Budget and in the coming weeks, we have some serious debate ahead of us and must make wise choices with the taxpayers' best interests in mind. As a Council it is imperative that we, as elected representatives, provide clear directives to City staff. As always, I welcome your comments on how Council can work
to achieve the best possible scenario for all Ottawa residents. I encourage you
to attend the 2008 Budget Meeting hosted by my west end Council colleagues and
I. This meeting is taking place on Nov. 27 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ron
Maslin Playhouse, located at 1 Ron Maslin Way in Kanata. Please plan to attend
and review the budget and make comments to City staff and your Councillors. Christmas Card Deadline Please ensure all of your festive art is submitted for my Christmas card competition by Nov. 19. A team of judges will be choosing a total of four designs from four different categories. Two designs will be chosen in the age group of up to 6 years old, one design from an artist age seven to 10 and one from age 11 to 13. When working on your art, please ensure you do not use glitter paints or stickers, as it must be suitable to copy onto the front of the Christmas cards.
