My first Councillor’s report card will be circulated to residents on Jan. 17 and it is incredibly important that I hear your thoughts on my representation of your needs and concerns at City Hall and within our community. weekly column and on my website. Mayor O’Brien Outlines Vision Last week City of Ottawa Mayor Larry O’Brien delivered his State of the City Address and outlined his vision for 2008 and beyond. He referred to this last year as one of progress and stated that Council will have a very full agenda in 2008. The Mayor has set out to achieve a number of initiatives in several areas this year including transit, trash and governance. I look forward to working with Mayor O’Brien and all of my

www.shadqadri.com. 60 Sweetnam Update Last week Council approved that their position on the 60 Sweetnam Dr. Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) appeal will be that the zoning should permit a new residential development with the conditions that it be limited to 2.5 stories, that the maximum number of units be 24 and they will follow suggestions made by an external planner acquired to represent them at the OMB hearing. On Dec 7 there was an OMB pre-hearing where it was
determined the appeal would be heard on May 12 over a five day period that has
been provided for the hearing. Both the zoning request and the site plan will be
dealt with at the OMB. Also the parties participated in a teleconference on Jan
15 to discuss the issues. The Stittsville Village Association and the Granite
Ridge Community Association will be participating in the OMB hearing. For more

shad.qadri@ottawa.ca. Timbermere Meeting Jan. 24 I will be hosting a meeting with the City of Ottawa to discuss the Community Planting Project to beautify the Timbermere hydro corridor. The meeting will be held on Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Pretty Street Community Centre, located at 2 Pretty Street. This naturalization plan consists of a multi-year community planting project to improve the hydro corridor by planting a variety of small trees and shrubs. Please join us to learn more about the plan, discuss the issues, and volunteer for this great community project. For those who are unable to attend the Jan 24 meeting, you may view the comprehensive naturalization plan in my constituency office or on my website, www.shadqadri.com. Comment forms are available for those who wish to make comments to City staff through to mid February. Remember to mark your calendar. The first community planting event is on May 10 and everyone is encouraged to participate in this unique community project. For more information please contact my office. time and talent will ensure this project is successful. 1921 Main St. Meeting Jan. 28 On Jan. 28 a public meeting will be held to discuss the official plan amendment for 1921 Stittsville Main Street. The proponent is requesting that the designation of the subject lands be changed from General Rural to General Urban Area in order to accommodate a future subdivision development of approximately 144 lots for single detached houses. Immediately north of the lands, a residential urban subdivision and to the south of the lands is an estate lot subdivision. I encourage you to attend the meeting, which is being held
at 7 p.m. at the Goulbourn Municipal Building, located at 2135 Huntley Rd. For

613-580-2424 x27597 or Sally.Switzer@ottawa.ca. Plan of Subdivision Comments Due Jan. 24 A plan of subdivision proposal has been submitted for the lands at 6141, 6181 and 6201 Hazeldean Rd. These lands are located north of the former flea market parking lot and east of Lloydalex Crescent in the Echowoods subdivision. To the south of this development there is a proposed commercial development, which will front onto Hazeldean Rd. The applicant is proposing 130 detached dwellings and 42 freehold townhomes. A public meeting will be held on the future on this development and a zoning by-law amendment will also be required. For more information or to provide your comments by Jan.

The 2009 IIHF World Juniors are set to kick off on Dec. 26, 2008 and will run until Jan. 6, 2009. All games will be played at the home of our Ottawa Senators, Scotiabank Place,and the home of the Ottawa 67’s, the Civic Centre. Ottawa Senators COO Cyril Leeder has informed me that

www.capitaltickets.ca. Congratulations Our community was proudly represented by the Liedtke family during a recognition ceremony held last week at City Hall for participants of Fall and Spring Cleaning the Capital. David Liedtke and his son Jeremy attended the ceremony and
accepted an award for their hard work cleaning the area in front of Sacred Heart
Catholic High School. Many thanks to the Liedtke family and the many other
residents who participated in clean-up projects in our community this year. To

www.shadqadri.com. Pink at the Rink Thank you to all of the volunteers who organized and participated in the Second Annual Pink at the Rink fundraiser in Stittsville last weekend. I had a great time watching the Stittsville Stallions and
Stittsville Stampedes play a rousing game of hockey for a great cause. I am
proud to see that so many local businesses and residents came out to support
this great initiative and am already looking forward to attending the Third
