Dear residents,

Get Involved At City Hall

Council will be back in full swing at the end of the month and once again, my colleagues and I will be bringing the concerns of our communities to the table for debate.

I encourage all of you to get involved and there are several ways you can achieve this. Before an item comes before City Council it must first be presented to the appropriate Standing Committee who in turn makes a recommendation on the report to Council. These Committee meetings provide you as residents with the opportunity to make a five-minute public presentation on any items of interest.

There are six Committees, comprised solely of City Councillors, and they are as follows:

  • Agriculture and Rural Affairs

This Committee makes recommendations to Council on issues, services and programs affecting rural residents and business owners.

  • Community and Protective Services

I serve as Vice Chair of this Committee and we make recommendations to Council on a variety of services including Ottawa Fire and Paramedic, medical, bylaw and the Office of Emergency Management.

  • Planning and Environment

I am a member of this Committee and we are responsible for ensuring that the City’s Official Plan is enforced. We make recommendations on issues including planning, environment, and infrastructure policy, building services and planning and infrastructure approvals. In addition to this we make recommendations on the City’s utilities including water, solid waste and environmental protection.

  • Transit

This committee makes recommendations on a variety of items regarding mass transit including OC Transpo, O-Train and the Mayor’s Transportation Task Force.

  • Transportation

This Committee deals with all issues related to transportation including parking and road infrastructure.

Each Standing Committee meets twice a month and I encourage you to visit my website (www.shadqadri.ca) where you can view agendas and minutes for each Committee meeting. City Council meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month and all agendas are also listed on my website. These meetings are open to all members of the public and you are encouraged to attend and get involved in your municipal government.

Advisory Committees

Another great way to get involved is by volunteering your time on one of the City of Ottawa’s 16 Advisory Committees. Members of these committees advise Council and City staff in a number of areas including accessibility, business, equity and diversity, poverty issues and seniors. For more information on membership please contact Diane Blais at 613-580-2424, ext. 28091, (TTY: 613-580-2401) or by e-mail at committees@ottawa.ca.

Splash Pad

The community park, located at Upcountry Drive, is up and running with the first splash pad for our community.

I encourage you to come and enjoy the facilities of the park and experience our community’s first splash pad. If you have any comments or questions about the park please contact my office.
