NEWS ARCHIVESMarch 20, 2008 Transit Tax parked for time being As you are aware, the issue concerning a potential tax increase in our community as a result of shifting from the Town Transit Area (TTA) to the Urban Transit Area (UTA) has been avoided for the present time. Due to the fact community consultation was not done, staff felt the motion to charge Stittsville residents the full UTA tax amount (an average Stittsville house in 2007 valued at $279,000 under the TTA was taxed $305.74; under the UTA, the same value home was taxed $486.18.) would be delayed until residents, business owners and Council were able to conduct a proper public consultation. Once consultation has been completed, the item will return to Transit Committee later this year, with potential inclusion in your 2009 taxes. Once I have established the necessary details for a public consultation, I will notify all residents in our community and invite you to come out and voice your opinions on public transit within our community. I will keep you all informed as to when this consultation will take place. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all of those
who took the time to write to me and articulate the concerns you had over this
potential tax increase. I greatly appreciate hearing from the residents of our
community and I welcome you to contact me in the future. 240 West Ridge Drive Comments Due An application of planned subdivision has been submitted proposing 31 single-detached dwellings and one public street. The site is located on the west side of West Ridge Drive, south of Abbott Street and north of Deer Run Park. It is proposed that the public street would have two intersections, which would align with the southern intersections of Eliza Crescent and Greenhaven Crescent. On October 24, 2007, City Council approved a zoning by-law amendment to rezone the land from Institutional Zone (I) to Special Residential Type 4 (R4-15 and R4-17). This zoning permits town homes, semi-detached, and single detached dwellings. Originally, the applicant was proposing town homes and single dwellings; given the community's concern with that proposal, there were additional zoning restrictions that did not permit town homes fronting on West Ridge Drive, and I also put a motion forward altering the original concept plan submitted by the proponent restricting the development of some town homes siding onto West Ridge Drive. I am very pleased that the proponent has instead decided to build single detached dwellings on this land. The deadline to provide comments on this proposal is April 10, 2008. To review the proposal please visit my website at www.shadqadri.com/planning.htm. For further questions or to submit your comments please

Kanata West Residential Subdivision Public Meeting The applicant has submitted a plan of subdivision and zoning by-law amendment for their residential development located at 5831 Hazeldean Rd. These lands are located in Kanata West, south of Maple Grove Road and north of Poole Creek. It is located in between the Fairwinds south and the proposed Fairwinds West subdivision. It is being proposed to change the current zoning of Rural, Agriculture and Highway Commercial to Residential to permit single-detached homes, semi-detached homes, townhouses, an elementary school and a park. The applicant is proposing approximately 471 residential dwelling units. I encourage you to attend the public meeting being held on April 3 at 7 p.m. at the Pretty Street Community Centre located at 2 Pretty Street. After holding mass in the Sacred Heart Catholic High School gymnasium for many years, I can only imagine how delighted the Holy Spirit Parish must be to be able to conduct their religious ceremonies inside the beautiful Holy Sprit Catholic Church. I would like to commend Father Steve Amesse, John Bissonette and the rest of the building committee, along with the many volunteers, for their dedicated work in bringing this facility to reality. I hope you all join me in welcoming the Holy Spirit Parish
to their new home. Earth Hour is upon us On March 29, cities across the country and around the world will band together for Earth Hour, a program designed to raise awareness about climate change.
