NEWS ARCHIVESDecember 21, 2007 Happy New Year This past year representing our community has been gratifying, fantastic and an absolute honour. My staff and I thank you for all of your support this past year and look forward to working with you to strengthen our community and partnerships in 2008. The community of Stittsville-Kanata West is truly unique
and we are all so fortunate to live and work in such a giving and caring
community. There are a number of initiatives I will be undertaking this year and
I encourage you to get involved and contribute to our community. Ward Council The first quarterly meeting of my Ward Council will be taking place on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Pretty Street Community Centre. All residents of our community are considered members and are encouraged to attend and provide input and ideas on how we can maintain and improve Stittsville-Kanata West. The purpose of my Ward Council is to provide a public forum for residents to openly discuss issues and concerns. As needed, my office will help facilitate these discussions and bring in guest speakers as required. I am excited to begin this new initiative in our community
and look forward to discussing the matters that are of importance to you and
your neighbours. City Advisory Committees A great way to get involved in our City is by volunteering your time on one of Ottawa’s 16 Advisory Committees. Members of these committees advise Council and City staff in a number of areas including accessibility, business, equity and diversity, poverty issues and seniors. To apply please submit a letter outlining how your education, work and volunteer experience would be relevant and how the committee or board of your choice would benefit from your membership. Please remember to include your home address in your application and ensure it is submitted by January 17, 2008. On Jan.9 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. an Open House is being held at the Client Service Centre at Ben Franklin Place, located at 101 Centrepointe Drive. This is a great opportunity for you to speak with City staff and learn more about how you can get involved. For more information on membership please visit
www.ottawa.ca or contact
Stephanie Brown at 613-580-2424, ext. 16760 or by e-mail at
committees@ottawa.ca. Fridays in the Ward Starting this month I will be in my ward office every Friday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and available to meet with you. As your Councillor, I do hold several public meetings throughout the year on a variety of topics, however I feel it is important to establish a weekly time out in the ward for you to drop in and discuss any items you are interested in. There is no need to book an appointment, and I encourage
you to drop by with any questions or concerns you may have. If you are
unavailable Fridays, please contact my office any time by phone at 613-580-2476
or by email at Shad.Qadri@ottawa.ca
and we will set up a time to meet that suits your schedule. Christmas Tree Collection I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to compost your Christmas tree this year. During the week of Jan. 14-18 the City will be collecting trees on your regular garbage day. Please ensure all decorations have been removed and that your tree is not wrapped in a plastic bag when you bring it out to the curb. Also the City is requesting that you please only place
your trees out on the night before your scheduled collection day to avoid any
issues with snow removal operations and collections. Councillor's Report Card During the third week of January I will be circulating a report card for residents to grade my performance during my first year as your Councillor. Please continue to watch my website at
www.shadqadri.com for a convenient online
version of the report card. I will also be sending this through an email
outreach and hard copies will be available at my ward office, located at 1532
Stittsville Main Street.
