Call to Artists: Young at Art 2008 is Underway

Ottawa - The City of Ottawa, Kanata Civic Art Gallery, Foyer Gallery and Arts Ottawa East invites submissions of original artwork from visual artists between the ages of 13 and 19 for Young at Art 2008. Works selected for the exhibition will be displayed in Ottawa community galleries and recognized for outstanding work at awards presentations in the east, west and central areas of the city.

Young at Art is an exceptional opportunity for youth-aged artists to reach out to their communities through the experience of a citywide juried art exhibition. Young at Art 2008 marks the third year of participation by youth artists from east, west and central Ottawa and continues to grow from its beginnings at the Kanata Civic Art Gallery 12 years ago.

All participants will receive a T-shirt featuring the winning design from the Young at Art T-shirt Design Contest held in fall 2007. A jury comprised of youth and established local artists selected Earl of March Secondary School student Zhenhe Wu’s entry as the winning design for the 2008 exhibition.

The deadline for Young at Art 2008 submissions is Friday, March 7, 2008 at 4 p.m. Application forms and guidelines are available at secondary schools citywide, Ottawa Public Library branches and online at www.ottawa.ca/arts.
