Instead, set them out at the curb on Give Away Weekend for a treasure hunter to discover. On June 7 and 8, the City’s Spring Give Away Weekend will wrap up Environment Week. Old furniture and small appliances, kitchen gadgets, pots and pans, books, CDs and DVDs are just some of the treasures you may find lining your neighbourhood streets. Please place any items you have to give away at your curb and mark them “free.” Ensure any items that you want to keep are away from your treasures or tucked away safely in your garage. At the end of the day, bring any uncollected gems back to your home. I wish you the best of luck in finding some hidden
treasures and I thank you for taking part in this eco-friendly treasure hunt. Jackson Trails Park Tree Clearing The Jackson Trails developer has advised the necessary tree clearing for the development of Jackson Trails Park began on Monday, May 26. The park plan identifies an area of tree removal at the corner of Stittsville Main Street and Kimpton Drive and in towards the interior of the park to accommodate the proposed active park amenities. Please visit my website to view the proposed park plan. All aspects of the park are expected to be completed by late summer, early fall. Because of seeding, the soccer field would not likely be open until the 2010 season. The trees to be retained are among the larger specimens in the park, and are located along the north side, along the northerly portion adjacent to Stittsville Main Street, and adjacent to the buffer wetland area and some of the residential lots. The developer has had an environmentalist conduct a breeding bird survey to ensure trees are not removed that contain breeding birds. If you have any questions contact my office and the park
planner, Patrick Legault at 613-580-2424 x13857 or

New Carp River Shoreline Tree Planting Program The Friends of the Carp River along with the Ottawa Stewardship Council (OSC) will join together to increase the number of trees planted annually along the Carp River in an effort to restore the banks to a more natural state. The program will be known as the Carp River Green Banks – Shoreline Restoration Program. Working in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources’ Ontario Stewardship Program and the OSC’s partners through the City of Ottawa’s Rural Reforestation Program – Green Acres, this new initiative hopes to further expand the Carp River’s “Ribbon of Life” natural corridor. Through this program, many benefits will be achieved including the improvement of water quality flowing into the Ottawa River, fish and wildlife habitat, erosion control and a reduction in fecal and/or chemical contamination from adjacent land uses. The restoration program is being offered to any Carp River riparian landowner willing to enhance his or her respective shoreline property. I encourage everyone interested to participate in this tremendous program and help expand the “Ribbon of Life” and the natural beauty of our community. For more information on the program or to participate and
sign up as a landowner, please contact the Ottawa Rural Reforestation Program
Partner at 613-692-3571 or visit the Ottawa Stewardship Council website at:
