Slowdown in Granite Ridge
On May 3, 2008, the Slow Down sign project
was launched in Granite Ridge, which included a radar to catch speeders. The
speed radar board is available by request for other parts of our community.

Spreading Roots in Timbermere
Stittsville residents banded together to
beautify the Timbermere Hydro Corridor on Saturday, May 9th. The grassroots
community initiative will occur again in the fall, as roots spread further along
the hydro corridor.

Building a Better City
Hélène Rivest, Jane Joy and Michael Justinich were honoured on March 28, 2008
for building a better city, by being recognized as Community Builders of the
Year, presented by United Way. These extraordinary Stittsville residents
contribute to making Ottawa a stronger, healthier and safer place in which to

Stittsville teens' singing has Councillors tuned in
 Stittsville residents Kyle
and Joel Curry have been entertaining audiences for a number of years. On
February 13, the boys were invited to City Hall to perform O Canada prior to the
start of City Council. Kyle and Joel put on a fantastic performance, much to the
delight of all those in attendance. The boys are pictured with Mayor Larry

Pink at the
Rink
 On
Jan. 12 Councillor Qadri was honoured to participate in the official puck drop
at the 2nd Annual Pink at the Rink fundraiser in Stittsville. The event raised
an approximate $11,000 for Breast Cancer Action, a charity that offers financial
support for women who have been diagnosed with the disease.

Liedtke Family Recognized at City
Hall
On Jan. 10 Stittsville-Kanata West residents
David Liedtke and his son Jeremy were recognized for their participation in the
City's 2007 Fall and Spring Cleaning the Capital campaign. The family
volunteered their time to clean up the area in front of Sacred Heart Catholic
High School in Stittsville.

Food Drive in Stittsvlle
 Councillor Qadri and his wife Theresa volunteered their time
for Stittsville's Annual Food Drive on December 8 with members
of the community and volunteers from the Food Bank.

Christmas Gathering at Councillor Qadri’s Ward Office
On December 1st Councillor Qadri hosted a
Christmas gathering for the community at his ward office. Several people stopped
by to enjoy Christmas goodies and make Christmas ornaments. The children were
all delighted when Santa and one of his elves made a special visit during the
afternoon.

Several Girl Guides from the community volunteered for the event
and had a great time making Christmas ornaments and enjoying treats.

During Santa’s visit the Councillor jokingly told Santa that all he wants for

Lights in Stittsville
On Nov. 24 the community of Stittsville
joined together to get the holiday season off to a great start with the annual
Parade of Lights and lighting of the trees in the park.

 Councillor Qadri is seen working as a
celebrity server during a fundraising breakfast for Mothers Against Drunk
Driving on Nov. 21. The breakfast, held at Chances R restaurant, raised funds
for MADD’s Project Red Ribbon Campaign.

Nov. 17
Councillor Qadri was thrilled to join Orville
Hartwick, his family and staff to celebrate the re-opening of Stittsville
Trailers on Nov. 17.
Remembrance Day in Stittsville
November 11
 Stittsville’s Remembrance Day services began
with a parade down Main Street. Many members of the community joined veterans as
they walked to the Cenotaph at the Stittsville Arena.

Veteran's Open House November 10
On Nov. 10 the Stittsville Library held an open house with many memorabilia
displayed by Stittsville Veterans. The event was the first of its kind and many
people dropped in to listen to some fascinating stories and enjoy refreshments.

Shad’s Squad Takes to the Streets
Oct. 12

Kidney Foundation of Canada's
RoundUp for Research Oct. 11
  Councillor
Qadri was "arrested" on Oct. 11 and raised funds for his bail in support of the
Kidney Foundation of Canada, Eastern Ontario Branch. All funds raised during
this event went towards education, special services, advocacy, promoting
awareness and medical research for kidney patients in Eastern Ontario.

Stittsville Villagefest Sept. 29 On Sept. 29 the community of Stittsville enjoyed their annual Villagefest, which
was organized by volunteers of the Stittsville Village Association. A number of
fun activities took place including a pancake breakfast, parade and games and
entertainment in Village Square throughout the day.
Mayor O’Brien and Councillor Qadri enjoy time with some residents at

Carleton Mississippi Mills MPP Norm Sterling, City of Ottawa
Mayor Larry O’Brien and Councillor Qadri took a moment to pose with the Shriner’s
Keystone Kops before the parade began.
Mayor O’Brien delighted residents of the Stittsville Villa and Manor
when he and Councillor Qadri got out of their carriage during the parade route
to shake hands and say hello.
These young Stittsville residents had a blast watching the colourful
floats during the parade.

Sept. 28
On Sept. 28 Councillor Qadri
participated in the 30 Hour Hour Quilt Marathon at the Country Quilter in

Stittsville. Congratulations to the Woman’s Build volunteers who have dedicated
their time and talents to building two beautiful homes on White Cedar Court.

episodes at the Habitat for Humanity site, located on White Cedar Court in

Official Opening of Indoor Skate
Park in Stittsville
May 25, 2007
Many youth came out to celebrate the official
opening of the Stittsville Indoor Skate Park on May 25.The Indoor Skate Park,
located at the Stittsville Arena, 10 Warner Colpitts Lane, will be open from May
28 to August 10, Monday to Friday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. A season pass costs
$56.25 and the drop-in fee is $5. Additional youth activities are also planned
to take place at the indoor park throughout the summer. For more information

support will determine the availability of this program in the future.

Safety...Shad's Business
May 12, 2007
Your Safety…Shad’s Business, the Councillor’s
new speed-monitoring program, was successfully launched on Saturday, May 12 on
the corner of Main and Abbott Streets in Stittsville. Councillor Qadri recently
purchased a radar gun from his office budget, which he will use to monitor an
approximate 30 hot spots in Stittsville during the summer months. To get

April 22, 2007

Representatives from Hydro Ottawa were among the many interesting
booths set up in Village Square.

Paladino for organizing this excellent event in our community.

Meat Shops in Stittsville. Dedicated volunteers spent the day
cooking up hot dogs and hamburgers to raise funds for the Crohn’s
and Colitis Foundation of Canada.
Councillor Qadri was among the many celebrity servers at the
Champagne on Ice fundraiser held at Scotiabank Place on February 16,
2007. The event raised an amazing $33,000 for the Western Ottawa
Community Resource Centre's Violence Against Women Program, Peer
Support Program and Chrysalis House Women's Shelter.
