The name Johnny Leroux now
synonymous in Stittsville
On Friday March 11th 2011, The City
of Ottawa officially recognized the many contributions of
Stittsville’s own Johnny Leroux by naming the Stittsville
Arena the Johnny Leroux Community Stittsville Arena.
Family, friends and dignitaries,
including Mayor Jim Watson, were on hand to celebrate with
Johnny Leroux, a Stittsville resident of over 40 years who
has devoted countless hours to his community and has been
devoted to serving his country.
Congratulations Johnny, this is a
tremendous honour and it is well deserved.

Scouts learn what’s like being a city councillor
On February 17th 2011, Councillor Shad Qadri made a special
presentation to a Stittsville Scout group on the duties of
being the municipal representative for the Stittsville Ward.
The Councillor talked about working at City Hall, some of
the issues Councillors are facing and what the most
important issues impacting Stittsville residents were.

Congrats to Stittsville’s
own Oliver Gervais
On February 20th, Stittsville’s own
Oliver Gervais competed at the 2011 Canada Winter Games as
part of Team Ontario’s short track team that captured the
silver medal in the 3,000 metres relay. In his singles
performance, Oliver also improved on his original standings
in all distances. On behalf of the entire community of
Stittsville, I would like to congratulate Oliver and the
rest of his team and wish them all the best in future
competitions.

Councillor Qadri
Shaves for a Cure
On February 11th at the Ottawa 67’s home
game, Councillor Qadri was one of the many participants in
Smiling over Sickness’ eighth annual Shave for a Cure event.
Smiling over Sickness is a medically run student program
within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa.
Everyone who had their head shaved raised
money for paediatric cancer research. Thank you for everyone
who generously donated towards the Shave for a Cure
campaign. Your overwhelming support helped the Councillor
achieve his goal and together we are making a difference in
the lives of the children across our country who are
battling a form of cancer.

Kanata
Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron learns day in the life of Councillor Qadri
On February 9th, Councillor Qadri made a
presentation to the 872 Kanata-Kiwanis Royal Canadian Air
Cadet Squadron.
The Councillor spoke to the
youngsters on what it’s like being a city councillor and
what he does on a day to day basis for the residents of
Stittsville and the City of Ottawa.

Councillor Qadri welcomes
Curves location in Stittsville
On Monday, January 31st, Councillor
Qadri joined community members to officially welcome
Vivienne Vanieris and the new Curves location on
Stittsville Main Street.
The all women fitness
facility will provide women in the Stittsville community
a chance to reach their health and fitness goals closer
to home and as well, it will serve as a social
networking spot for women who are reaching to achieve
similar fitness goals as a support system.

Mission
On Friday, January 28th 2011,
Councillor Shad Qadri was one of many Ottawa City
Councillors who took part in serving lunch for those in
need at the Ottawa Mission.
The Councillor said his time at the
Mission was one he won't soon forget and looks forward
to going back. The initiative was led by Councillor
Keith Egli.

Councillor, Mayor celebrate
grand opening of Lowes
On Thursday, January 27th 2011,
Councillor Shad Qadri, along with Councillors Marianne
Wilkinson, Allan Hubley and Mayor Jim Watson, were on hand
to celebrate the official grand opening of the new Lowes
location at 5577 Hazeldean Road by taking part in a ribbon
cutting ceremony.
Councillor Qadri and his Council
Colleagues received a tour of the new location and had a
chance to talk to some of the staff members about this
latest business that will serve west end residents.

joins Colleagues, Mayor in declaring Wellness Day in
Ottawa
On January 22nd at inaugural Kanata Wellness Expo at
the Holiday Inn Suites in Kanata, Councillor Shad Qadri
along with His Worship, Mayor Jim Watson and Council
Colleagues Allan Hubley, Marianne Wilkinson and Eli
El-Chantiry, officially declared January 22nd as Wellness
Day in the Nation's Capital.
Wellness Day promotes active living for residents in Ottawa.
Residents got the chance to visit over 30 different vendors
at the event that promote a healthier living.

Stittsville Legion honour youngsters in Remembrance Day
artistic contest
On
January 18th, Councillor Qadri along with representatives of
the Stittsville Legion presented some talented youth in the
Stittsville community with certificates as they were
rewarded for their fabulous work in the Legion's annual
Remembrance Day artistic contest. Youth submitted original
works in a poster, poetry or essay category.
The
Legion also honoured Pat Graham, its Youth Coordinator Chair
for over 10 years of service with the Legion helping youth
in the community. Legion members also honoured Councillor
Qadri for his support for the Legion over the years.
