Ottawa's Emergency Services
9 Run Run Event October 20, 2012
Congratulations
and thank you to Brenda Tirrell , the City of Ottawa staff and
volunteers as well as everyone who supported this year’s 9 Run Run
event. This is the event’s third year. Over 1800 people
participated. Funds raised go towards the Do It for Daron Campaign
(DIFD), enabling the clinicians and researchers at The Royal Ottawa
continue to develop new methodologies for treating mental illness in
young people - developing suicide education programs, enhancing
clinical care, family support and outreach programs and helping
break down the stigma surrounding mental illness.
9 RUN RUN event is organized by the city of
Ottawa's three emergency services; fire, police and paramedic. Last
year the event raised over 25,000 dollars.
Congratulations
also goes out to Chief Pingitore of the Ottawa Fire Service for
winning the Chief Chilli Cook off two years in a row!

Suburban Lens Stittsville Tour July 26, 2012
I am a
member of the City’s Intensification Implementation Working
Group (IIWG) which is comprised of 5 City Councillors and
City Planning staff. As part of the IIWG, Councillor Harder
who represents Barrhaven and myself have undertaken a
Suburban Lens review to have planning staff provide a
thorough review of planning issues with new developments.
On July
26, myself, along with Councillor Harder, Councillor Hobbs,
John Moser, Stanley Wilder, Alain Miguelez, Court Curry,
Felice Petti and Michael Boughton of the Planning & Growth
Management Department, took a tour of Stittsville for them
to see firsthand the issues that we face. In theory and on
paper plans the City policies make sense. However, in
practice this is not always the case. Some adjustments may
be needed to make and that is one of the major reasons for
this IIWG group as well as the group tour through
Stittsville. Some of the main issues of discussion were
regarding parking issues, landscaping plans and the
placement of utilities.
Councillor Harder and I will continue to work on the
Suburban Lens with City staff and will be making changes to
the current plans and policies to ensure that proper growth
is undertaken in the City’s suburban areas.
Thank
you to everyone that came out to Stittsville to participate
on the tour.
