Hazeldean Road Widening Project
It has been a long time
coming but Hazeldean
Road is receiving a
major facelift, as the
main east-west corridor
will be widened from two
lanes to four lanes from
Carp Road to Terry Fox
Drive.
The funding for this
project comes through
the Federal, Provincial
and Municipal
government's
shovel-ready stimulus
funding program. At $65
million, this is one of
the largest investment
being made in the entire
City and at 750 jobs it
will be the largest job
creator for all stimulus
projects citywide. As a
shovel-ready project, it
must be substantially
completed by 2011.
This is a major need for
our community and I am
encouraged by the
commitment being made to
enhance our quality of
life in Stittsville. The
widening of this road is
of critical importance,
given the current and
planned growth of our
community and along
Hazeldean Road.
The widening project has
been divided into two
phases. For Phase One,
which includes the
widening from the Carp
River to just west of
Iber Road, the project
has been awarded to
Thomas Cavanagh
Construction Ltd. who is
currently undertaking
preliminary work. It is
anticipated that on-site
work will begin in the
late fall. For Phase
Two, which runs from
Iber Road to Carp Road,
the project was awarded
to Graydex Ottawa Inc.
Major road widening
construction will take
place in the spring of
2010. The road will be
constructed to urban
standard, meaning it
will include both
sidewalks and bicycle
lanes.
Project updates will be
provided in the
Councillor's column in
the local community
newspapers.

Kanata West Transportation Infrastructure
On June 26 a public meeting was held to discuss the transportation
connections in Kanata West. This meeting was a follow up to a meeting held on
September 18, 2007 to discuss the transportation connections in Kanata West.
The possible closure or redirection of
Johnwoods Street has been discussed but the majority of the community is not in
favour of any change to Johnwoods Street current format.
There has also been discussion regarding the
possible connection of Stittsville Main St to Maple Grove Rd. A further traffic
study has been done on this proposal and it is suggesting that these two roads
should be connected. City staff and the Councillor must further discuss this
proposal and no decisions have been finalized at this time.
Please contact our office to provide your
comments on this proposal.
