Questions of Importance to Provincial Candidates

Dear Candidate,

As a voter in the riding of Carleton-Mississippi Mills, there are a number of key issues that affect my quality of life and my community. It is important before I cast my vote on Oct. 10 to know exactly where you stand on the following items:

  1. The proposed expansion of the Carp Road landfill is a great concern for the members of my community. Over the past year and a half, residents in the west-end have become highly engaged in this topic and taken a proactive approach to opposing the expansion of landfills. What are your thoughts on the use of landfills to manage waste?

  2. How do you plan to battle odours and contaminants that effect our air quality every day?

  3. Over the past year, residents and the City have closely examined different methods of diverting waste from landfills. What is your plan to encourage diversion across the province and which alternative technology do you feel is the most environmentally friendly and cost effective?

  4. How do you feel about the municipality of Ottawa working towards gaining more control over the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (IC&I) waste sector?

  5. I am concerned with the provincial government downloading services to municipalities on items such as subsidized housing, the needle exchange program, transportation and education. How do you plan to ease the financial burden on my City?

  6. What would your proposal be for the new health tax? What are you planning to do about the shortage of doctors?

  7. How are you planning to help municipalities refurbish existing infrastructure?

I thank you in advance for your responses to my above questions.

Sincerely,
